Surrounded by olive trees and bathed in sunlight, Castillo de Almodóvar del Río stands proudly atop a hill in the south of Spain. The castle, of Muslim origin, is in the town of Almodóvar del Río, Province of Córdoba, Spain. Previously a Roman fort, the current structure has Berber origins, in the year 760. In County Clare on the western coast of Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher rise 120 m (390 ft) above the sea. The cliffs get their name from a fort that once stood there; it was demolished in 1808. Perched at the top is O’Brien’s Tower, built in 1835 as a tourist lookout. The Cliffs are one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ireland and have appeared in numerous films and are mentioned in many songs over the years. Prints of this image are available.
