I made this photo a few years ago during a lovely summer afternoon in Colorado. The sun had just gone behind the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains northwest of Denver, so the clear sky overhead created a very soft, diffused light over the field of sunflowers. I made two exposures: one for the flowers, and one for the colorful clouds. I processed the raw files in Lightroom and then merged them together using Photomatix. A bit of final cleanup and retouching was done in Photoshop. Prints available and comments always appreciated!

Multiple streams flow over a sharp drop between two of the myriad lakes within Croatia’s Plitvice Lakes National Park. (Click for larger image) I made this image during a day trip to the park with my wife Ruth. We explored a significant portion of the park, but serious photography was extremely difficult due to the crowds of people everywhere as well as the very sunny weather! Waterfalls very often look their best under cloudy skies, so to make this image I had to wait for a lull in the crowds as well as a cloud over the sun. This national park is absolutely amazing; I’ve never seen any landscape quite like it. It’s got many, many lakes, each formed in a plateau made by seismic activity and erosion. In between each of the lakes is a waterfall. You can see a lot more photos and learn about the park here and here.

I made this image during our Italy Photo Tour in October 2012. The village of Apricale is high in the Maritime Alps, not far from the Mediterranean and the French border. Our group stayed there for two nights and had a fantastic time exploring the area. We’d scouted this location the previous afternoon and the entire group returned in the pre-dawn hours to photograph the sunrise. The clouds never gave way, but we were treated to calm weather and clear visibility, lending a sparkling quality to the town lights. Click the image for the full size version.

While exploring Warsaw last spring, I came upon this lovely old woman knitting on the sidewalk. She has the most amazing face! (click for larger image)
